Microbiologists endorse automated serial dilution

16 Jun, 2025

A new independent report by SuperMicrobiologistes has revealed strong user support for automated serial dilution, with microbiologists citing major ergonomic and operational advantages after switching to the Inlabtec Serial Diluter UC system.

Developed to overcome the strain and inefficiencies of manual serial dilution, the Inlabtec system was appraised by technicians and lab managers from both high-throughput contract laboratories (processing up to 800,000 dilutions per year) and lower-volume internal labs. Across the board, users reported that automation reduced hand and shoulder fatigue, improved reproducibility, and significantly cut training times - especially important in high-turnover environments.

Importantly, every lab interviewed said they would not return to traditional glass tube methods, noting that the shift wasn’t just about comfort, but smarter, more sustainable lab operations.

The Inlabtec system replaces glass tubes with ultra-light 250 mg plastic bags, reducing water and energy consumption, eliminating the need for cleaning and sterilisation, and generating less biohazardous plastic waste. Running 300 bags consumes about the same energy as a single dishwasher cycle - making the system a cost-effective and environmentally conscious alternative.

SuperMicrobiologistes concluded: “Whether managing a high-throughput lab or a small internal team, the Inlabtec Serial Diluter delivers measurable benefits - from improved staff well-being to lower waste and higher lab efficiency.”
