Aiding Compliance with Laboratory Safety Regulations

Mar 12 2009

The safety certified FIREBOY Bunsen Burner from Integra Biosciences is proven to ensure highest application safety by eliminating the risk of gas leaking and explosion inherent in using traditional Bunsen burners.

Looking to update gas use in line with new local safety regulations the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health (FLI) in Insel Reims, Germany sought a versatile, high safety alternative to traditional Bunsen burners linked into their site gas distribution system. As well as being safety certified to work with the existing site gas distribution system in line with the new regulations, the alternative should also offer the flexibility to be used in laboratories in parts of the building not served by the gas supply.

Because of new regulations the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute Institute was faced with having to replace its whole gas distribution system, which would have incurred considerable expense. Having positive experience of using FIREBOY’s in parts of the building not served by the site gas supply the Institute chose to substitute all our traditional Bunsen burners with 70 new FIREBOY units. The new generation FIREBOY from Integra Biosciences, is an intrinsically safe alternative to the traditional Bunsen burner connected to a laboratory gas supply. Advanced temperature protection, flame monitor and alarm display features serve to protect both the operator and operating environment. To prevent unignited gas leakage, the FIREBOY automatically tries to reignite the flame if it accidentally extinguishes. Should it for any reason fail to do so, the unit will interrupt the gas supply. An automatically shut off after a user-defined maximum burning time, eliminates any danger if the unit is unintentionally left on. Operating from a wide range of gas cartridges and powered from a battery the robustly designed FIREBOY can be used where ever you wish. With no interfering cables or tubes the ‘hands-free’ FIREBOY is extremely easy-to-use.
