International Labmate Ltd has channelled over 35 years of laboratory publishing experience into producing market leading scientific journals for the international market. Michael Pattison founded the first Labmate issue in 1974 at Newgate in St Albans, containing only advertising cards. International Labmate followed close behind in 1976 to reach the European and the Middle Eastern markets and is recognised today as the leading analytical title in its field. Lab Asia launched in 1994 and extended the portfolio of ILM with a clear purpose to provide a product orientated journal to South Asia and Australia. Each journal acts as a key informative purchasing tool for buyers involved in the scientific field and a crucial marketing platform for manufacturers and suppliers to promote their products.

Michael’s son, Marcus Pattison, joined the company in 1989 taking charge of the company’s environmental technology publications. The family business is still growing in strength and has a wealth of loyal advertisers and industry friends that are held in very high regard. A strong sense of values and enthusiasm prevails, as Marcus highlighted: “Being part of a family business is both enjoyable and a challenge. You have values to uphold, traditions to keep, promises to deliver and progress to make. Criticism is hard to take (if it happens), praise is always welcome and clients soon become great friends. Our future aims will be to continue as the leaders in the scientific publishing world and still maintain the same family enthusiasm and morals.”

Today Marcus organises conferences and exhibitions such as MCerts and WWEM and supports Arab Lab in Dubai and Michael is a keen supporter of local sporting events including the Saracens Rugby club and the Chiltern Region Petanque team.
