Meet. Learn. Discover. The best reasons to visit the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference 2018

Apr 05 2018

The Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference 2018 is returning to the East Midlands Conference Centre at the University of Nottingham on Wednesday 23rd May 2018. This free to attend event, organised by Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) – the UK's largest independent supplier of chemicals, laboratory equipment and consumables – brings together scientists, speakers and exhibitors from across the community, offering an opportunity to meet like-minded people, learn new things and discover the very best scientific technology and equipment for the laboratory.

Following the success of the previous four shows, this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, as SLS continues to respond to the changing needs and demands of its customers. A must-attend event for science professionals, the show offers value to everyone, from laboratory technicians to chief executives.

An educational experience

The value of the show extends beyond merely meeting exhibitors, thanks to the accompanying conference schedule. SLS is delighted to be working once again with the Science Council, and this year’s talks – some of which count towards CPD – will focus on the future of British science, research and technology. There will be an exciting programme of lectures, workshops, seminars and masterclasses, including demonstrations from sponsors Eppendorf and Corning.

This year’s keynote speakers are Dallas Campbell of the BBC’s Bang Goes the Theory fame – who will also act as MC for the event – and Professor Sir Bill Wakeham. Dallas will, no doubt, share his lifelong passion for understanding our relationship with science, technology and engineering – both past, present and future. Professor Wakeham has a broad background spanning the fields of chemistry, engineering and physics, providing him with unique insights into the practical applications of scientific theory in industrial settings.

In addition to the varied conference schedule, delegates can take advantage of the Science Council’s Professional Development Zone (PDZ), and engage with relevant bodies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Biology, the Biochemical Society, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Science and Technology, and the Institute of Biomedical Science. Whether seeking career advice, or asking for help to tweak a CV, the Science Council’s member bodies are on hand to support visitors in their scientific professions.

Everything the laboratory needs

This year, the show will bring together over 60 exhibitors from across the SLS supply chain, with a number choosing to launch new products at the event. The exhibitors represent the breadth of the scientific community, from food safety and pharmaceuticals to healthcare and water analysis. The event offers an opportunity to step away from online or paper catalogues and see the products in person, and attracts scientists from both academia and industry. A focus on quality over quantity ensures there is space and time for visitors to discuss products, request site surveys and view demonstrations.

you are looking for freezers and refrigerators or pipettes and pumps, you are sure to find high quality and great value products from SLS’s selected partners. Event sponsor Eppendorf will be showcasing its Cryocube® F740hi – a freezer for secure storage and optimised energy use – and its epMotion 96®, a semi-automated electronic pipette for fast and precise parallel 96-channel microplate processing. In addition, delegates will have an opportunity to win an Amazon Echo Show by entering an on-stand quiz. Corning Life Sciences, another main sponsor, will be promoting its new cell counter, as well as its PETG conical flasks, and will be giving visitors the chance to win vouchers up to the value of £500 to redeem on orders.

Fun while you learn

The show also promises a good dose of fun-fuelled activities alongside the exhibition and conference schedule. All attendees will be entered in to a prize draw to win £250 in Amazon vouchers. There will also be a mini golf competition taking place across the exhibition hall, offering a chance to win a further £250 of Amazon vouchers. In addition, a free hot lunch and refreshments are provided, and delegates can look forward to sampling the delights of liquid nitrogen ice cream, courtesy of Lick Me I’m Delicious.

Meet. Learn. Discover.

With so much on offer, the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference has something for everyone. Meet and mingle with fellow scientists, learn new things from inspiring speakers and hands-on demonstrations, and discover the latest products and consumables for the laboratory. A day inspired by scientists, for scientists – it’s an event not to be missed.
