Balances
Two weights for USP <41> compliant routine balance testing
Feb 03 2014
Routine testing of balances can be a challenging process, but is absolutely necessary to ensure weighing results meet process tolerances and are fully traceable. With just two carefully selected weights, Mettler Toledo’s unique CarePac® weight sets can save you time and money and still ensure you meet the new requirements of United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter 41 which became official in December 2013.
Traditionally, weights have been sold in sets with up to 20 different weights. Routine testing of balances with so many weights is time consuming and business constraints often don’t allow the time needed for such in-depth testing of balances. However, research has determined that such testing is not necessary and an alternative approach was specified in the new revisions to USP <41>: testing at 5% of the balance capacity and close to the maximum capacity of the balance is sufficient. Mettler Toledo’s CarePac weight sets contain two carefully selected weights with nominal values and weights classes suited to the technical characteristics of each balance model and the required process tolerances of the customer’s application.
Time saving
USP <41> states that routing testing of balances with two weights is sufficient to guarantee accurate weighing results. Testing with just two weights takes a lot of pressure off the technicians carrying out this time consuming and intensive process and releases valuable work time to concentrate on other tasks.
Cost saving
CarePacs are an extremely cost-effective solution for routine testing. Not only is it cheaper to buy a set of two weights rather than a set with up to 20, recalibration costs are significantly reduced. The return on investment will be realised in next to no time – with the additional benefit of increased productivity from laboratory technicians.
Everything in one box
Each CarePac weight set is supplied with additional professional weight handling tools as standard: ergonomic tweezers and weight forks, clean room approved gloves and a special cleaning cloth. Manufacturer recommended SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) provide clear guidance and ensure consistent processes for periodically performed routine tests on balances. CarePacs are available in three sizes, small, medium and large, for testing balances with maximum capacity up to 8 kg. The specific weights included are recommended by Mettler Toledo according to individual requirements.
