Speciation is a growing field of analysis concerned with the determination of one or more elemental species rather than the total
element concentration. The purpose of speciation analysis is to ascertain specific information such as toxicity, reactivity and
mobility that are dependent on the particular chemical form.
The currently accepted approach for performing speciation analyses is coupling a separation technique with a sensitive detector such as ICPMS.
