Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces Enhanced iCAP 6200 ICP-OES – A Low Cost Solution with Extended Analyte Coverage and Even Lower Detection Limits

Apr 13 2011

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc announces the enhanced specification Thermo Scientific iCAP 6200 inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES). The iCAP 6200 ICP-OES now incorporates a wider wavelength range of 175-847nm to enable users to measure a wider range of analytes as part of a multi-element analysis and to access more sensitive wavelengths for improved analyte detection capability. Thermo Fisher showcased the  enhanced specification iCAP 6200 ICPOES within Thermo Scientific booth 2835 during Pittcon 2011.

The iCAP 6200 ICP-OES spectrometer is a simultaneous, dual-view instrument designed to provide a low cost  alternative to the Flame Atomic Absorption (Flame AA) technique. The instrument provides a simple multi-element analysis solution for routine laboratories that require analysis of up to 100 samples per day. The enhanced
specification now enables the measurement of sulphur as part of a multi-element method and access to the most sensitive mercury, thallium, carbon, tin, phosphorous, arsenic and iodine wavelengths. The new enhanced analytical performance is combined with award-winning design features that enable low running costs and simple operation, making the iCAP 6200 ICP-OES an ideal solution for first time users of the technique. Users of the Flame AA spectrometry technique who require higher productivity and lower detection limits will benefit significantly from these new enhancements.

Designed for a wide variety of application areas including food and consumer safety, environmental, mining and WEEE/RoHS testing, the iCAP 6200 ICP-OES delivers a powerful and cost-efficient trace elemental analysis solution. The instrument features an optimised gas distribution system to minimise gas consumption and dramatically reduce running costs. These cost saving features include a unique torch design which reduces plasma gas consumption and an optimised plasma interface gas flow which runs at just one litre per minute.

The compact iCAP 6200 ICP-OES requires minimal bench space and ensures excellent signal stability, analyte detection and wide dynamic range. The instrument includes a range of pre-loaded method templates, developed to enable protocol-compliant sample analysis and unlimited access to a new dynamic method library, hosted online at www.thermoscientific.com/iteva-software. These templates complement the instrument’s pre-optimised sample introduction specifications to enable simple, consistent operation, allowing all levels of users to achieve powerful analytical performance.
An informative webinar demonstrating how simple, low cost ICP-OES technology can be used to enhance productivity and detection limit capability is now available to view on demand. Hosted by Thermo Fisher Scientific, the webinar entitled ‘AA Overworked, High Specification ICP Overkill! What is the Solution?’, discusses the merits of the iCAP 6200 ICP-OES as a low cost alternative to the AA technique. To view the webinar, visit   www.spectroscopynow.com/thermowebinars
