New columns enable faster analysis of complex biologics

Waters Corporation has introduced the BioResolve™ Peptide and GTxResolve™ Lipid columns, designed to improve separation of structurally similar compounds found in GLP-1 therapeutics, insulin formulations and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Developed for peptide and lipid analysis, the columns help laboratories speed up characterisation of increasingly complex biologic therapies while improving the detection of difficult impurities.

The columns can deliver up to three-times faster characterisation of GLP-1 therapeutics and reduce analysis times for LNP components by up to half, helping accelerate drug development and reduce production bottlenecks.

Analysing these materials remains challenging because many impurities differ only slightly in chemical structure, making them difficult to separate using conventional reversed-phase chromatography methods. Existing workflows often require longer run times or repeated method optimisation to achieve reliable results.

The columns combine specialised surface chemistries with superficially porous particle technology to improve both separation efficiency and sensitivity while remaining compatible with existing HPLC and UHPLC systems.

For peptide applications, they are designed to resolve subtle impurities, including molecules differing by just a single atom or variations in structural arrangement that can affect drug quality.

For lipid nanoparticle analysis, the columns improve separation of ionisable lipids by reducing peak tailing and sharpening resolution, helping researchers better characterise increasingly complex formulations.

Designed for use from research through to manufacturing, the columns aim to simplify method development while generating highly reproducible data to support product development and regulatory requirements.
