Advanced cholesterol based columns for high selectivity HPLC separations

11 Mar, 2026

The Cogent® UDC Cholesterol™ column from Microsolv uses a liquid crystal cholesterol phase bonded to a silica hydride surface to deliver stable, highly selective performance for demanding separations.

Key benefits:

Superior shape based selectivity for steroids and other structurally similar analytes, enabled by the liquid crystal cholesterol ligand.

  • High stability and long lifetime due to the direct Si–C bond and non endcapped design
  • Versatile multimode use - RP, NP, and ANP - for flexible method development
  • Fast equilibration that speeds throughput and simplifies switching between modes
  • Excellent LC MS performance, offering strong hydrophobic retention, high resolution, and robust operation under reduced flow conditions

Why labs choose these:

  • To separate isomers and hard‑to‑resolve analytes including steroids, lipids, peptides, and proteins.
  • For faster method development enabled by rapid equilibration and multimode capability.
  • For stable, selective LC MS workflows requiring high resolution and consistent performance.
