Scientists could find they have easier access to information about forestry issues worldwide as the Global Forest Information Service (GFIS) updates its gateway.

Metla - The Finnish Forest Research Institute, says that the new gateway provides "a more universally accessible tool to discover and comprehensively share the latest forest-related developments".

The information available to scientists via the system will also be complemented by more frequent updates by GFIS on social networks including Twitter, Facebook and the service's own blog.

Scientists working in countries around the world can now access contents in 11 different languages, as well as translating article headlines back into English by hovering over them.

The platform also carries details of job opportunities, projects currently underway worldwide and datasets compiled from forestry studies.

Information can be submitted via a web form or by RSS, with feeds also available for users to subscribe to regular updates via the information service.
