Revolutionising Osmolality Testing with Unrivaled Hands-Off Automation

Oct 03 2023

Clinical laboratories worldwide are under intense pressure to balance staffing challenges with the need to quickly get accurate results to physicians. Advanced Instruments, an industry leader in osmometry innovation for over 65 years, responded to the need to do more with less by developing the next generation of osmolality testing — the OsmoPRO® MAX Automated Osmometer.

The OsmoPRO MAX uses the gold standard freezing point depression method to quickly provide reliable results. To help labs combat staffing challenges and drive efficiencies, Advanced Instruments took on the challenge to build efficiency and automation into the entire testing process with the OsmoPRO MAX. “At Advanced Instruments, we take a continual, customer-centric approach to designing solutions, an attitude that starts right from product conception,” said Advanced Instruments Clinical Director, Julie MacKenzie. The result: A fully automated instrument that provides increased efficiency and a simplified osmolality testing workflow:

  • Automated sampling from primary tubes eliminates the need for sample cups and pipetting.
  • Continuous loading of samples in their primary tubes as they arrive minimises workflow interruptions and eliminates batch testing.
  • Ready-to-use system fluid automates cleaning between samples for up to 500 tests.
  • Automated barcode scanning reduces transcription errors and prevents sample mix-ups.

Making osmolality automation accessible was paramount in engineering the OsmoPRO MAX, an osmometer designed for laboratories of all sizes with its small footprint and simple operation. OsmoPRO MAX goes beyond providing accurate and precise test results. Laboratory scientists can walk away while the instrument performs replicate measurements from the same primary tube. Onboard animations walk users of all skill levels through simple routine maintenance procedures. With minimal user intervention, labs can perform an unprecedented 500 tests before system fluid replacement is needed.

The OsmoPRO MAX directly connects with the Advanced Instruments’ web based AdvancedQC™ peer group program, which facilitates monitoring of quality control trends and instrument performance. This enables laboratories to compare results for the manufacturer-recommended Protinol™ Protein-Based Controls and Renol™ Urine Osmolality Controls with other laboratories in real-time and on a monthly basis. This capability allows users to monitor QC trends and quickly spot shifts in instrument performance.

Advanced Instruments continues to innovate in the field of osmometry while remaining committed to the product quality and reliability that customers have depended on for over 65 years. With the OsmoPRO MAX, the company supports its mission to provide customers with tools and resources that drive process optimisation and increased efficiency by freeing up tech time, improving turnaround times, reducing errors, and ensuring effortless compliance.
