Expansion of Oligonucleotide-Based Fluorescent In Situ Hybridisation Catalogue of Probes

Aug 01 2012

Agilent Technologies Inc have launched additional Agilent SureFISH probes, creating the largest offering of oligonucleotide-based fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) assays on the market. Over 425 probes are now available from Agilent, including centromere probes for all 24 chromosomes, and 35 telomere probes.

Agilent SureFISH probes are designed for specific, nonrepetitive regions of the genome, providing superior resolution as compared to other available technologies. Standard BAC probes are limited in their ability to detect small aberrations, as well as the ability to specifically target chromosomal regions containing repetitive sequences. Oligo FISH probes enable users to specifically target chromosomal regions with a fast turnaround – hybridisation in as little as four hours. An example of the power of oligo technology, Agilent’s SureFISH product line is able to offer centromere probes not typically available in BAC format. This includes centromere probes for chromosomes 5, 13, 14, 19, 21 and 22.

“Agilent SureFISH probes provide high-quality results and have allowed us to reduce turnaround time and expense,” said Jennifer Laffin, PhD, F.A.C.M.G., Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, and Public Health Director, Clinical Genetics Laboratories.

Oligo FISH probes target relevant regions for a wide range of constitutional and cancer applications. Agilent’s SureFISH product line offers: unique probes not available in BAC format; higher resolution and smaller regions than BAC probes; shorter hybridisation (as fast as four hours); next-generation sequencing verification for every probe (ensures specificity to the region of interest).

Customers can easily find and purchase SureFISH probes on the SureFISH website, which enables them to search for probes based on chromosome location, cytoband or genes of interest. The chromosome browser also includes images of all probes hybridised at four and 14 hours, allowing users to see the probe performance prior to purchase.
