Agilent Technologies Inc announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mahidol University in Thailand to accelerate research and development (R&D) in the field of science over the next three years.

The MOU with the university’s Faculty of Science supports a newly established set of collaborative R&D environments focused on providing analytical expertise and is Agilent’s first academic partnership with the top university in Thailand to advance the level of research and education.

The agreement covers areas such as the supply of mechanical elements for early small and large molecule research into target compounds, which is a fundamental platform in translating into synthetic biology in therapeutic use. This collaboration also outlines multi-disciplinary technology training on world-class analytical development, bringing innovative thinking to enable scientific discoveries.

“For 64 years at Mahidol University, the Faculty of Science has developed a strong culture in research excellence, along with innovative education connecting basic sciences to various scientific disciplines ranging from medical research, agricultural research to data sciences, machine-learning and astrophysics,” said Associate Professor Palangpon Kongsaeree, Dean, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. “The partnership opportunity with a world-renowned company such as Agilent Technologies will not only strengthen our basic science research, but also translational research to drive for the betterment of our country and mankind.”

“Agilent remains fully committed to growing strong, local roots in Thailand, as reflected in this prestigious agreement with Mahidol University,” said Yuwapha Karapanon, Thailand Country General Manager of Agilent. “Over our 20-year presence in Bangkok, we have grown our team to around 100 employees working to support the delivery of scientific breakthroughs in Thailand, for Thailand. With several significant local collaborations focused on developing new scientific milestones, we believe these initiatives will drive innovations to ultimately advance the quality of life.”

Since establishing its Bangkok site in 1999, it has been an engineering centre and services hub for Agilent’s business developing and delivering complete analytical science and technologies, as well as clinical research to fulfil laboratory demands across Thailand. Agilent has also partnered with Silpakorn University on programs to develop local science talent, demonstrating Agilent’s commitment to investing in the communities where it operates.
