Pasteur + Pipette = Pastette

Invented by Louis Pasteur in the middle of the 19th century, glass Pasteur pipettes were introduced in laboratories to prevent contamination when transferring small volumes of liquid. Forty years ago, the relatively new technology of plastic blow moulding offered an economical and practical advantage over glass products.

This manufacturing technique was improving and progressing at quite a pace, and ideas for its application expanding. Combining the simple glass Pasteur pipette with its rubber teat, into a single piece plastic pipette was one such idea that proved to be a great success.

Similarly the words Pasteur Pipette were combined to create the Alpha Laboratories’ Pastette® brand. First available to laboratories in Europe in 1978, Pastette is now used by thousands of laboratories worldwide and the range has expanded to over 50 designs developed in response to users’ specific application requirements.
