The new EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) introduces new requirements for monitoring PFAS and organically bound fluorine in environmental and wastewater samples (sum of PFAS, total PFAS). Sum parameters for fluorine such as AOF (Adsorbable Organic Fluorine) and EOF (Extractable Organic Fluorine) are becoming increasingly important in order to provide a comprehensive picture of contamination levels.
In this web seminar, we provide an overview of the determination of AOF in accordance with the current standard ISO EN 18127 and highlight its practical application. In addition, we introduce the EOF approach and share our experience from participating in a Europe-wide interlaboratory study.
Another focus is on modern analytical technologies: we demonstrate how molecular absorption spectrometry can represent a powerful and cost-effective alternative to classical combustion ion chromatography for determining organic fluorine compounds.
