Analysis of Food Packaging Application Notes
Jul 30 2019
The analysis of food packaging can often be a challenge to the laboratory due to the multicomponent matrices used in the packaging itself combined with other components such as adhesives and printing inks.
Using a pyrolyser for Thermal sampling coupled with GCMS provides a simple way to analyse these products without extraction or complicated sample preparation. The information provided can assist in the identification of co-polymers or blended co-polymers in multilayer materials to the additives and wrapper inks.
Useful for competitive analysis, product development, regulation, and even forensic analysis, pyrolysis provides a simple way of studying any type of finished polymer by GC-MS.
A number of application notes covering the analysis of a range of food packaging materials are available from Analytix.
