A new milestone in automated thermal analysis

19 Oct, 2026

Fast, intuitive, and highly automated thermal analysis: The Julia DSC series simplifies everyday DSC workflows across quality control, research, and regulated laboratories. Its broad application range covers materials from polymers and pharmaceuticals to batteries, food, and construction materials.

Anton Paar marks a new milestone in thermal analysis with the launch of the Julia DSC series differential scanning calorimeters. Julia DSC covers routine and advanced applications, with measurement temperatures ranging from -170°C to +700°C depending on the configuration. The patented Air Cooling Module reaches down to -35°C without an external cooling device, while Refrigerated and Nitrogen Cooling Modules extend the range for more demanding applications. The flexible cooling concept allows users to expand the available temperature range down to -170°C in less than five minutes.

For laboratories with high sample throughput, the optional Julia DSC Autosampler provides 70 sample positions and eight reference positions, enabling unattended operation even over extended measurement sequences. Automatic reference crucible exchange and automated calibration workflows further reduce manual interaction. Samples that need to remain sealed before measurement can be prepared with special lids that are automatically pierced immediately before insertion into the DSC furnace. This enables efficient automation even for samples requiring special handling.

Julia Suite simplifies the entire DSC workflow by bringing measurement and analysis together in one intuitive workspace. Guided calibration workflows and predefined checks support consistent operation, while dedicated QC functions enable straightforward result evaluation and trend monitoring. Methods can be created in just a few clicks, and automated calibration checks with performance history help users maintain reliable results. For regulated laboratories, the optional 21 CFR Part 11-compliant software provides user management, electronic signatures and an audit trail.

“Julia DSC was developed to make precise thermal analysis easier to perform and easier to automate. From guided workflows to unattended measurements, the system helps laboratories reduce manual steps while keeping the flexibility required for different applications,” said Anton Paar product manager Andrea Todorovic.

By combining measurement performance with smart automation and guided workflows, Julia DSC provides laboratories with a complete DSC solution designed to simplify daily work and support reliable results across a broad range of applications.
