As green solvents gain ground in coatings, pharmaceuticals, cleaning agents, and chemical production, laboratories require efficient solutions for qualifying them, especially key parameters such as viscosity and density.

Anton Paar’s SVM viscometers measure both values in one step – saving time, minimising waste, and increasing efficiency.
Dynamic viscosity and density are measured simultaneously, with kinematic viscosity calculated directly. Using only 1.5 mL of sample, the robust metal measuring cells of the SVM accommodate a wide range of green solvents, including alcohols, esters, glycols, and bio-based blends. Measurements are fully compliant with ASTM D7042 for viscosity and ASTM D4052 for density (in applicable models).
Test temperatures are freely selectable from -60°C to +135°C, enabling viscosity-temperature profiles to be generated in a single run – with no hardware changes, no capillary switching, and no operator adjustment between steps.
The SVM series is built for efficiency. Measurement and cleaning typically take less than five minutes per sample, with integrated prewetting and temperature stability routines to ensure repeatability and data consistency.
For high-throughput environments, optional sample changers can automate measurement for up to 71 samples with fully programmable cleaning and drying cycles. All data can be exported or integrated into LIMS environments for complete traceability.
