High Throughput Alternative to HPLC

Cobalt Light Systems Ltd has introduced a dedicated high throughput, non-invasive machine for pharmaceutical formulation analysis. Using transmission Raman spectroscopy the TRS100 can analyse the contents of hundreds of tablets, capsules and vials in minutes without sample preparation. In a soon-to-bepublished study with a major pharmaceutical company the contents of intact capsules were quantitatively determined for a four-ingredient formulation. The API was determined with a ca. 1% error in a few seconds per sample. The analysis was invariant of capsule size and shape.

The TRS100 is designed for uncompromised speed and accuracy of analysis. Without the need to prepare samples or solutions and with a high accuracy and speed a TRS100 machine can analyse several orders of magnitude greater numbers of samples than conventional separation techniques. Also, with no liquid phase needed the solid state is preserved. This allows Cobalt’s phonon mode analysis technology to directly quantify polymorph content with ca. 1% accuracy.
