TWI Ltd, a world leading independent research and technology organisation, has purchased an Isojet Equipements DPE Indus RTM resin injection system from Intelicare Ltd.

TWI Ltd is employing over 800 scientists, technologists, administrative and support staff worldwide and with annual group turnover of £80 million (€94million). From bases in the UK, South East Asia, India, the Middle East, Central Asia and the USA, TWI provides expertise in material science, joining and fabrication and structural integrity.

The injection equipment is an Isojet DPE - Indus Resin Injection for RTM for both mono and bi-component resins although the machine is supplied initially with as mono component with bi-component capability to be added at a later date.

The machine comes equipped with: 10” touchscreen display for quick visualisation and easy navigation within the PLC; high precision metering gear pumps for accurate dispensing; mixing head with automatic and manual dispensing; heating of the resin pump and dispensing hoses; key for mono resin operation; pressurised stainless-steel heated resin tank with stirring capability, safety valve, manometer and pressure regulator; de-gassing with integrated vacuum pump.

The RTM equipment will be used within the Adhesives, Composites and Sealants (ACS) section of TWI at Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge, to increase the composite manufacturing capabilities, being used in R&D single client projects, internal core research projects and public funded projects. This will involve new developments in materials, joining methods and processes. It will also be used for the development of process monitoring systems required for high quality component manufacturing.

The RTM equipment has been well received as demonstrated by Dr Jasmin Stein, Senior Project Leader (Composites) ACS section, who commented: “The equipment has been commissioned, training undertaken and we have produced our first composite test piece. We are very impressed with the results and look forward to using it on a number of high-profile composites development projects with our members. We also envisage this capability attracting new industrial partners for composites related development projects.”

Intelicare specialises in the supply and service of equipment used within the plastics processing, composites and other industries. Key product lines include Fluid Temperature Control, Materials Handling, Laboratory Platen Presses, RTM Resin Injection Equipment, Industrial and Composites Curing Ovens and Extrusion Lines.
