Significantly reduced caking, even during long-term storage

Merck has expanded its granulated product portfolio with the launch of Sodium Chloride Granulated EMPROVE® EXPERT Ph Eur, BP, ChP, JP, USP, a multi-compendial excipient with broad application in both pharma and biopharma. Due to its granulated form, the new excipient provides reduced caking to facilitate processability, speed up manufacturing processes and increase operator safety.

Multi-compendial excipient is ideal for high-risk applications

Pharmaceutical manufacturing often requires the handling of multi-ton quantities of raw materials, such as buffers, salts, and stabilising chemicals. Any delays in handling can lead to non-desirable delays in production. For solid raw materials, handling issues arise if the material cakes or solidifies, thus becoming difficult to dispense out of the primary container, weigh accurately, and flow properly through processing machinery. This commonly results in negative impacts on manufacturing efficiency, process interruptions, and even quality deviations. Manual de-caking is often being employed to prepare solidified raw materials, but such a procedure wastes valuable time and poses a serious risk of injury to the operators.

Free-flowing and easy to handle

Merck’s granulated materials help overcome these issues. Compared to bulk powders, granulated materials have better flowability and are easier to handle, with far less caking even after long-term storage. As the need for manual de-caking becomes obsolete or, at least strongly, reduced, operator safety can be significantly improved. Materials are condensed by compression force only, without the use of water or other additives. As a result, raw material characteristics are preserved, and the highest quality standards are met. With these properties, granules offer better processability, accelerate manufacturing processes and improve operator safety.

As the latest addition to Merck’s granulated portfolio offering, Sodium Chloride Granulated EMPROVE® EXPERT Ph Eur, BP, ChP, JP, USP is available alongside Urea, Glycine, Potassium Chloride, and Ammonium Sulphate in granulated form, with more products to follow soon.
