The 860 KF Thermoprep is the new Metrohm instrument for thermal sample preparation in Karl Fischer titration. It can be combined with a wide range of titrators for volumetric and coulometric water determination.

The 860 KF Thermoprep heats the substance under investigation in a hermetically sealed vessel. The moisture liberated from the sample is transferred via a carrier gas stream into the titration cell where it is determined. This means that the 860 KF Thermoprep is the ideal instrument for reliable analysis of «difficult» samples, such as plastics or salts, which release their water very slowly or only at elevated temperatures and are therefore not suitable for direct KF titration. As the sample does not enter the titration cell, side reactions with the KF reagents used are excluded.
