Genzyme is planning a major upgrade of its laboratory information management systems (LIMS), according to FreshPath Consulting.

The business software strategy provider has inked a deal to oversee the upgrade, the latest in a series of contracts the firm has won with biotech firms.

Following the upgrade to its LIMS, Genzyme's Clinical Specialty Lab is expected to be able to automate a number of its processes that are currently being carried out manually.

Meanwhile, FreshPath adds that the deal is just one of a number that it has agreed to carry out on behalf of Genzyme.

The LIMS upgrade is due to give Genzyme greater process automation by leveraging the features of Blaze Systems' LIMS platform, BlazeLIMS.

Among the capabilities of BlazeLIMS are manufacturing quality control, governmental regulatory compliance, analytical services for commercial laboratories and research and development functions, as well as support for specialty requirements and labs that combine different types of features into a single mode of operation.
