Mass spectrometry & spectroscopy
The Shimadzu GCMS-TQ RX Series is a versatile triple quadrupole gas chromatograph mass spectrometer designed for modern laboratories that require reliable performance, flexible workflows, and efficient operation. Built around Shimadzu’s “3R” concept – Reliable, Resilient, and Responsible – the system combines stable hardware with intuitive software and advanced automation technologies. This enables laboratories to adapt quickly to changing analytical demands while maintaining consistent, high-quality results.
The Multi-Mode Injection Unit (MMI) adds flexibility, which supports several injection techniques in a single unit. These include split/splitless injection, programmable temperature vaporisation, large-volume injection, direct injection, and thermal desorption or extraction. Dedicated software simplifies method creation and transfer, allowing laboratories to develop and implement analytical methods more efficiently. Proprietary thermal insulation technology ensures stable temperatures and rapid heating and cooling.
The GCMS-TQ8050 RX model delivers particularly high sensitivity through a high-efficiency detector, advanced noise-reduction technologies, and the Boosted Efficiency Ion Source. Off-axis ion optics help eliminate neutral noise without compromising sensitivity, while the newly developed low-noise detector supports stable, reliable detection at low concentration levels. A quadrupole mass filter equipped with pre-rods provides accurate mass separation and helps minimise contamination. The optional long-life filament offers a service life more than five times longer than conventional filaments, reducing replacement frequency, reanalysis, and unexpected downtime.
Advanced software further improves productivity. Smart MRM™+ automatically creates optimised analytical methods for high-sensitivity, high-accuracy quantitative analysis, including multicomponent applications. Acquisition windows and event times can be adjusted easily, helping prevent missed detections caused by retention-time shifts or peak tailing. AART automatically corrects compound retention times after column maintenance, while Active-Time Management delivers real-time information about instrument status and estimated completion times. Peakintelligence™ for GC-MS uses an AI-based peak-processing algorithm trained on experienced analysts’ workflows and can reduce manual data-processing time by approximately 75 %.
