In memoriam: Ton Capella 1964 - 2021

Telstar has expressed its sorrow and condolences on the passing of its President Ton Capella on December 19, aged 57. Born in Terrassa on November 21st, 1964, Ton joined the family business, a designer and manufacturer of industrial vacuum pumps, in 1991, with responsibility to drive its activity in foreign markets. The initiation of its export activities in 1992 resulted in a solid internationalisation process leading the company to operate in more than 100 countries.

Appointed CEO of the company in 1994 and President in 2004, Ton Capella led the company towards rapid business growth between 1998 and 2008 that, by virtue of an acquisitions strategy, consolidated a phase of strong strategic expansion, converting Telstar into a business group with a thorough presence in countries throughout the world such as China, the United States, United Kingdom, France, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, India, Bangladesh, Italy, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Lithuania.

Following this turning point, he also led many of the milestones that laid the foundations for Telstar's strong evolution into the future when the company decided to revise its strategy and change its role from that of an equipment manufacturer to one of providers of global, integrated solutions in the life sciences sector, using its own design, engineering and consultancy technologies.

After the integration process of Telstar into the Azbil Group in 2013, the company maintained its brand to lead the Life Science Engineering division of the Japanese corporation under the presidency and direction of Ton Capella who successfully led the transition process. Since 2017, he has been the Chairman of Azbil Telstar.

An Industrial Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and PDD a Business Management from the IESE Business School, Ton Capella was actively connected to local institutions. Appointed president of the Egarsat board of directors in 2010, he has also participated in the government team of the Terrassa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
