A co-operative agreement in the fields of sports medicine and technology between Finland and Bahrain Olympic Committee will bring opportunities over the next three years for Finnish companies in the fields of architecture, technology, healthcare and training.

The result of an export promotion trip to Bahrain organised in May 2015 by Finpro’s FinlandCare program and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the project is managed by the Turku-based Hospital NEO and its Medical Director Jussi Rantanen. It includes planning for the construction of a new sports hospital and the reorganisation of existing clinics.

In addition to the project, Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences has also signed a five-year agreement with Bahrain’s Princess Noora Bint Khalifa Al Khalif, who owns a training institute and 16 other companies in different sectors in the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates).

As well as providing opportunities for Finnish health sector companies, the Bahrain market could also act as a bridgehead to the rest of the Gulf region, according to Meria Heikelä, Director of the FinlandCare program.
