Dr Karen Hogg of the University of York has been announced as the winner of the first RMS Medal for Flow Cytometry.

The medal was launched with the rest of the RMS Medal Series to coincide with the 175th anniversary of the Royal Microscopical Society and marks outstanding scientific achievements to scientists applying flow cytometry in the field of immunology or cell biology.

Dr Hogg is an experimental officer in the University of York’s Department of Biology’s Imaging and Cytometry Technology Facility. Over the last five years she has provided expert scientific service within the laboratory and has taken a lead role in the operation and  method development of  MoFlo Astris Cell Sorter and Flow Analysers.

Seen as a research and information resource both within and external to the Department of Biology, she provides appropriate guidance, training and advice to users. She collaborates with academic and  research staff on innovative techniques and applications, delivers lectures to the MSc students and tutors for internal and external practical courses.

Dr Hogg will be presented with the medal at the flowcytometry UK meeting in Leeds, the flagship event of the RMS Flow Cytometry Section, which is taking place on 20-22 July this year.
