An advanced radiotherapy education centre announced by Komazawa University and Varian Medical Systems, is offering hands-on educational courses for medical professionals and students on the planning and delivery of advanced radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer. Located on the University’s Tokyo campus, the new centre is equipped with a fully functional Varian TrueBeam™ medical linear accelerator, to enhance the knowledge and skills of health professionals on the delivery of radiotherapy using Varian technology, as well as establish standards for radiotherapy education at Komazawa University. The system is integrated with the company's suite of oncology and radiotherapy software, including Eclipse™ treatment planning system, and ARIA® oncology information system.
"With the increasing number of cancer cases in Japan, it is critical to increase the number of skilled professionals who can deliver radiotherapy treatments at a high standard," said Masao Hoshina, Professor at Faculty of Health Science. "By collaborating with Varian on this radiotherapy education centre, we have the opportunity to expand the pool of qualified professionals and maximise the use of this important technology in the fight against cancer."
"We are honoured to collaborate with Komazawa University on this new advanced radiotherapy education centre," said Mitchell Silong, managing director Oncology Systems Japan at Varian. "The goal of the centre is to help medical professionals enhance patient care with expanded educational programs on the use of radiotherapy and radiosurgery in the treatment of cancer."
