New refrigerant, low GWP portable chillers

07 Jan, 2026

Mokon, an international leader in high-quality circulating liquid temperature control systems since 1955, has introduced two new refrigerants, R-454B and R-513A, designed for lower environmental impact and reliable process control. Available in portable chillers and full-range systems, they offer cooling capacities up to 60 tons while reducing greenhouse gas heat-trapping, resulting in refrigerants with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Both refrigerants are low in toxicity and contain no ozone-depleting chemicals. They comply with US government standards requiring a GWP below 700, with R-454B at 446 and R-513A at 572.

“Our two new refrigerants have been rigorously tested to deliver the same high quality Mokon systems are known for, while staying well within GWP standards,” said Dan Healy, Mokon General Manager. “We will continue to support all existing systems, including R-407C and R-134A. Parts and gas will remain available for several years, and customers can continue to service and repair their units.”
