Bringing AI into microwave sample preparation

01 Oct, 2026

Milestone introduces MAIA (Milestone AI Agent), a new step forward in laboratory support, designed to transform how users interact with their microwave sample preparation systems.

Integrated into ultraWAVE 3 and ETHOS for microwave digestion, and now ETHOS X for microwave extraction, MAIA acts as a virtual product specialist, providing immediate, context-aware assistance directly at the instrument or via Milestone Connect.

With this latest expansion, MAIA now supports laboratories across both digestion and extraction workflows, providing instant access to expert knowledge for method selection, sample handling, workflow optimisation, troubleshooting and maintenance. Whether preparing samples for elemental analysis or performing microwave-assisted extraction, users can rely on MAIA for practical guidance throughout their daily operations.

The system supports both chat and voice interaction, making expert assistance intuitive and fast to access, even during busy laboratory workflows.

A standout feature is MAIA Lens, which enables visual recognition of consumables. By simply scanning a component, users can identify it and access step-by-step instructions for maintenance or replacement, helping ensure correct procedures and consistent system performance.

By extending MAIA to ETHOS X, Milestone brings its AI-powered support beyond microwave digestion and into microwave extraction, making decades of Milestone application expertise available on demand across an even broader range of sample preparation workflows.
