AI assistant transforms microwave digestion workflows

15 Apr, 2026

Milestone has introduced MAIA (Milestone AI Agent), an intelligent digital assistant designed to reshape how laboratories interact with microwave digestion systems. Integrated into the ultraWAVE 3 and ETHOS platforms, MAIA functions as a virtual product specialist, delivering real-time, context-aware guidance directly at the instrument or through Milestone Connect.

By providing instant access to expert knowledge, MAIA supports users across key workflows including method selection, sample preparation, troubleshooting and routine maintenance. The aim is to reduce downtime, streamline operations and help laboratories maintain consistent performance, even in high-throughput environments.

The system is designed for ease of use, offering both chat- and voice-enabled interaction so users can quickly obtain support without interrupting ongoing work.

A key innovation is MAIA Lens, a visual recognition tool that identifies consumables when scanned. Once recognised, the system delivers clear, step-by-step guidance for installation, maintenance or replacement, helping ensure correct handling and reliable instrument performance.

MAIA is available on both new and existing systems, extending access beyond new installations. By embedding four decades of Milestone expertise into a digital assistant, the platform represents a significant step forward in AI-enabled laboratory support for sample preparation workflows.
