ACT Ecolabel certification across Milestone Technologies

18 Jun, 2026

Sustainability has always been part of how Milestone designs technologies, develops methods, and supports laboratory workflows.

Today, this commitment has been further strengthened through the achievement of the My Green Lab ACT Environmental Impact Factor Ecolabel across key technologies in our portfolio, including DMA-80, ETHOS, ETHOS LEAN, ultraWAVE 2 eco, and ultraWAVE 3.

The ACT Ecolabel provides independently verified information on the environmental impact of laboratory products, evaluating criteria such as manufacturing, energy and water use, materials, packaging, and end-of-life.

This milestone complements Milestone’s ISO 14001 certification and reinforces a sustainability strategy that has been developed over many years. Milestone is proud to be the first company in the sample preparation sector to obtain ACT certification across multiple core technologies.

A Sustainability Journey Built on Action

ACT certification is not the beginning of Milestone's sustainability story.

For years, Milestone has invested in technologies and workflows designed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the highest analytical performance.

This commitment is built upon three pillars:

  1. 1. Better Chemistry
Reducing reagent consumption through optimised methods and advanced microwave technologies.
  2. 2. High Technology
Designing systems that improve efficiency, optimise resource utilisation, and support safer laboratory operations.
  3. 3. Green Workflow
Automating critical steps, minimising waste generation, and improving overall laboratory sustainability.

Together, these principles form what Milestone calls:

Milestone Commitment: GREENNOVATION FOR LABS

Milestone’s technologies help laboratories improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability through innovation. Milestone supports more sustainable laboratory operations across a wide range of applications. DMA-80 enables direct mercury analysis without acid digestion, eliminating reagent consumption and significantly reducing waste. Advanced microwave digestion and SRC technologies optimise energy use and sample throughput while reducing reagent requirements. Automated reagent handling, acid purification, and innovative cleaning solutions further contribute to safer and more resource-efficient laboratory workflows.

The company’s commitment to sustainable laboratory practices has also been supported by scientific research. The Green Metric for Microwave-Assisted Sample Preparation for Elemental Analysis: GreenPrep MW Score demonstrated how sample preparation methods can be evaluated and optimised according to environmental criteria, including reagent consumption, waste generation, and energy efficiency.
