Frequently asked questions for beverage analysis with ion chromatography
Mar 07 2024
The analysis of beverages is extremely important for the general health of the population. Hydration is one of our basic physiological needs, meaning that when we are dehydrated a number of problems can occur. It is therefore incredibly important for standards to be set by regulatory agencies regarding the content of our beverages and maintained by those who produce our drinks. Reliability in analysis is thus critical for many stages in the production process: product monitoring, quality control, and general content determination.
Ion chromatography is a simple, yet robust analysis technique that can measure several components in beverages with relative ease compared to other technologies. Typically, conductivity detection is used for IC analysis. Other options are available though, including UV/ VIS and amperometric detectors for more specialised analysis.
