Expanded partnership launches first digital bone marrow imaging and analysis

24 Sep, 2024

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics, a leader in clinical diagnostics, and Scopio Labs, a medtech company specialising in digital cell morphology, have expanded their partnership to include a global distribution agreement for Scopio’s Full-Field Bone Marrow Aspirate™ (FF-BMA) Application. This application, integrated with Scopio’s CE-marked X100 and X100HT platforms, introduces a fully digital workflow for bone marrow aspirate analysis.

Bone marrow aspirate analysis is crucial for diagnosing various hematologic diseases, allowing clinicians to examine the cellular composition and morphology of blood cells. However, traditional methods are manual, time-consuming, and rely heavily on skilled haematopathologists for accurate results. Scopio’s FF-BMA Application revolutionises this process by combining high-resolution Full-Field imaging with an AI-powered decision support system, significantly improving efficiency and accuracy.

The FF-BMA Application also enables remote review of bone marrow smears via secure hospital networks, reducing turnaround times, promoting collaboration, and facilitating second opinions. "With limited technology available today for bone marrow aspirate analysis, Scopio’s AI-powered solution allows lab scientists to evaluate hundreds of cells more efficiently than manual microscopy," said Chris Hagen, Senior Vice President at Beckman Coulter. "We are excited to expand our partnership and bring this first-of-its-kind solution to labs worldwide."

Itai Hayut, CEO of Scopio Labs, echoed this sentiment: "This partnership extension with Beckman Coulter demonstrates our shared commitment to advancing digital transformation in clinical labs. The addition of our digital bone marrow application to Beckman Coulter’s haematology offering highlights the market success of our Full-Field digital cell morphology platform."

Since 2022, Beckman Coulter and Scopio Labs have worked together to accelerate the adoption of digital cell morphology. In 2023, Beckman Coulter introduced an end-to-end automated haematology solution by integrating its DxH 900 Workcell with Scopio’s X100HT platform for AI-assisted blood smear analysis.

Availability of Scopio’s Full-Field Peripheral Blood Smear™ and Full-Field Bone Marrow Aspirate™ Applications may vary by region.
