Sterile transport carts meet UN3291 standards
Jun 02 2025
Expert manufacturer of hygienic solutions, Teknomek, has launched a brand new partnership with Hupfer, one of Europe’s leading specialists in sterile goods logistics. Teknomek has recently partnered with Hupfer to become the proud UK distributor of Hupfer equipment, including its Medical Transport Carts. Designed for healthcare environments and Sterile Service Departments (SSD), the carts are independently UN3291 certified, meeting international standards.
Sterile transport carts, or trolleys, play a critical role in any medical or healthcare environment. They are used to prevent contamination during the transportation of sterile equipment, such as operating theatre instruments, from a sterile services department to where it is needed, either on-site or offsite. Once instruments have been through autoclave decontamination in an SSD, they are cooled and packed into wired or wrapped containers. The specially designed trolley is then used to move the sterile equipment safely and hygienically to the desired department within a healthcare or research environment or to a separate location. After use, the contaminated instruments can then be replaced in the trolley to be returned safely to the SSD for autoclaving/sterilisation.
Teknomek’s Hupfer medical trolley is one of the most robust transport solutions available for sectors where hygiene is critical. Manufactured from 304-grade stainless steel and certified to a payload of up to 250kg, each trolley features a fully enclosed, single-walled construction that is easy to clean and sterilise. Independently tested and independently certified to UN3291, the trolley is built to withstand demanding healthcare environments and meet international standards for the secure transport of clinical waste.
The Hupfer trolley is fully compatible with trolley washers and complies fully with NHS handling protocols and infection control guidelines. It also helps to prevent the rips and tears which can commonly occur in materials such as sterile wraps and packaging films during handling, transport or storage. This type of damage not only compromises product integrity but can also pose serious hygiene and safety risks.
Available in four sizes, one with a single door and three with double-doors, each trolley has a three-point locking system and three height-adjustable stainless-steel shelves. It runs on four 160mm castors with stainless steel housings and total lock braking. With two swivel castors, ergonomic push handles and top-mounted corner bumpers, the trolley has been thoughtfully designed to offer safe, stable manoeuvrability.
Michelle Locke is Product and Marketing Manager at Teknomek. “This partnership with Hupfer marks an exciting new stage in Teknomek’s development as a business; taking us further into the world of healthcare,” she explained. “We have chosen to market Hupfer Medical Transport Carts because they have so many benefits for SSD operators. They are designed and manufactured to the highest possible standards, and are leak-proof, sealed, robust and impact-resistant. Because the trolleys are fully aligned with NHS handling protocols and infection control standards, they provide medical personnel with complete confidence that every movement of sterilised equipment meets the highest safety standards.
“We are known for our manufacturing expertise and experience within sectors where hygiene is critical, so this is a natural progression. However, any business we partner with has to share our commitment to excellence and our values. Hupfer has a long and fascinating history and is a respected and forward-thinking specialist in its sectors.”
“We will be initially offering the Hupfer sterile transport trolley in four different sizes to our customers but are planning to add other Hupfer products to our range in the near future.”
