Anton Paar Pensky-Martens testers power safer sustainable fuels

22 Jul, 2026

As renewable and synthetic fuels become increasingly important in the transition to cleaner energy, Anton Paar's PMA 300 and PMA 500 Pensky-Martens flash point testers help laboratories ensure these next-generation fuels meet the highest standards for safety, quality, and compliance.

Designed for precise, fully automated flash point determination, PMA 300 and PMA 500 provide reliable measurements for a wide range of renewable and synthetic fuels, including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), biodiesel blends, and other alternative fuel formulations. By delivering accurate flash point data, the instruments support safe storage, transport, blending, and production while helping laboratories comply with international standards and quality requirements.

For laboratories with demanding sample volumes, PMA 500 combines advanced functionality with higher productivity. Cooling times after each measurement are up to 20% faster, allowing more samples to be processed during each shift. Its Impurity Matrix Feature also helps users assess the effect of contamination on flash point and estimate impurity concentrations, providing valuable insight into fuel quality and process performance.

Both instruments deliver excellent repeatability and reproducibility for routine quality control. A fully automatic multifunction head minimises operator intervention and improves consistency, while the ceramic-coated electric igniter lasts up to ten times longer than conventional electric igniters. The result is reduced maintenance, lower operating costs, and dependable long-term performance.

"The rapid growth of renewable and synthetic fuels is creating new demands on quality control laboratories," says Dr Andjela Djordic, Product Manager for Flash Point Testing at Anton Paar. "Laboratories need reliable, efficient testing solutions that not only deliver highly accurate flash point measurements but also support higher throughput and digital workflows. PMA 300 and PMA 500 are designed to help customers meet these evolving requirements with confidence."

The instruments also integrate seamlessly with AP Connect, Anton Paar's laboratory execution system. Measurement results can be transferred automatically to LIMS, network folders, or cloud-based systems, improving traceability, simplifying data management, and supporting connected Laboratory 4.0 workflows.

From research and development through production and final quality control, PMA 300 and PMA 500 provide laboratories with the accurate, reliable data needed to accelerate the development and certification of safer, more sustainable fuels.
