Lovis 2001 delivers fast, cost-effective, and reliable pet intrinsic viscosity testing

Anton Paar's Lovis 2001 automated digital rolling-ball microviscometer transforms intrinsic viscosity (IV) testing for PET with a fast, automated workflow that increases laboratory throughput, reduces solvent consumption, and delivers reliable, reproducible results.

As recycled PET production continues to expand, recyclers, polymer manufacturers, and quality control laboratories are under increasing pressure to analyse more samples while maintaining consistent product quality. Intrinsic viscosity is a key parameter for PET grade classification and quality verification, yet conventional dilute-solution viscometry often requires labour-intensive workflows, high solvent consumption, and lengthy testing times.

Lovis 2001 addresses these challenges by combining automated measurement control, integrated polymer analysis software, precise temperature control, and a closed flow-through measuring system that simplifies filling and cleaning while minimising operator intervention. Microcapillary technology further reduces sample and solvent consumption, lowering operating costs while supporting more sustainable laboratory operation through reduced solvent handling and disposal.

With a measurement time of less than 30 seconds per PET sample after preparation, laboratories can analyse significantly more batches each day without compromising accuracy. Results are comparable to established ISO 1628 and ASTM D4603 methods, providing confidence for routine quality control, product development, and material release.

The fully digital system further streamlines laboratory workflows by enabling electronic data storage, review, transfer, and remote operation through PC-based software. This improves traceability, reduces manual documentation, and supports efficient, connected quality control.

Lovis 2001 is ideally suited for incoming quality control of recycled PET flakes, pellets, and regrind, classification of recycled PET grades, monitoring PET degradation during extrusion and reprocessing, and release testing of recycled PET materials.
