Versatile LED photochemistry reactors for scalable chemistry solutions

11 Nov, 2024

Laboratory specialist Asynt has unveiled a versatile new range of photochemistry reactors, offering chemists scalable tools for both batch and continuous flow applications. As part of their extensive catalogue, these reactors support a broad array of reaction scales and synthetic applications, providing chemists with flexible and effective solutions from milligram to kilogram quantities - all from a single trusted source.

The advamcement of photochemistry in recent years, especially ‘reagentless’ activation methods, has prompted researchers to rethink their synthetic strategies. Asynt’s photochemistry reactors respond to this shift, using high-quality LED technology to drive safe, efficient, and precise reactions. With controlled narrow emission bands and reduced power loss between light source and reagent, the reactors ensure optimised light transfer through innovative designs, including the LightSyn Lighthouse Quartz Reactor Rod.

Asynt’s range covers single wavelength LEDs from 365 nm to 940 nm, as well as cool white IR, providing nearly universal compatibility with current photochemistry techniques. For added safety, each reactor is fully sealed, interlocked, and offers precise temperature control for both the LED source and reaction chamber, ensuring stable and reliable conditions.

The product line includes the LightSyn Lighthouse, a batch reactor with a 10 W LED that can run single or multiple positions. Meanwhile, the LightSyn Illumin8 facilitates up to eight parallel reactions, using DrySyn OCTO technology for individual sampling under inert atmospheres. For chemists looking to scale up, the Solstice and Solstice MAXI models are ideal, offering higher power light sources of 120 W and 180 W and accommodating up to twelve 8 mL or 20 mL vials.

On the flow chemistry side, Asynt offers the fReactor PhotoFLOW, featuring five continuously stirred tank reactors in cascade with independent 10 W modules, and the PhotoSyn, a high-power LED reactor for continuous flow applications, with up to 700 W output. This model includes a programmable power supply with connectivity options, making it suitable for larger operations.

Asynt is unique in supplying both batch and flow photochemistry equipment to chemists over the widest range of scales all from just one company. With highly efficient and safe solutions for both standalone photochemical reactions and combination flow and photochemical reactions, the question to chemists now, is can your ground-state chemistry give you access to cleaner, greener, ‘reagentless’ chemistry, and how do you best utilise these tools?
