World’s smallest single-use disk stack centrifuge

14 Mar, 2025

GEA introduces the kytero® 10, the world’s smallest single-use disk stack centrifuge, designed for the biopharmaceutical, food, and new food industries. This mini centrifuge is ideal for product development, particularly in small bioreactor setups, and is used for the separation of bacteria, cell cultures, and yeasts, as well as applications in cell and gene therapy. The kytero® 10 is the smallest model in GEA’s range for cell separation and recirculation, catering to volumes from one to 10 litres.

Thanks to its low-shear design, the kytero® 10 maintains high cell viability during continuous cell harvesting and perfusion processes, offering efficient centrifugal separation from laboratory scale up to production. It’s the perfect solution for the smallest batch and perfusion fermenters. GEA’s other kytero® models cover ranges from 500 to 2,000 litres, with test users reporting that the concept successfully overcomes previous limitations, providing scalable results that transition smoothly to larger production models.

GEA's proven disc stack centrifuge technology is integrated into compact, user-friendly units that include all parts in contact with the product. These units are easily exchanged after production runs, ensuring maximum safety against contamination. Gamma-treated exchangeable units come as standard.

The kytero® 10 offers the same advantages as classic disk stack separators but eliminates the need for cleaning (CIP and SIP), enabling rapid operation with only electricity and air required. The compact design and intuitive operation ensure simple integration into any system. Additionally, the breeze Drive® non-contact drive system guarantees safe operation under high biocontainment conditions.

By enabling continuous operation and clarification during the perfusion period, the kytero® 10 reduces bioreactor size and production costs, accelerating product development. This makes it an essential tool for industries such as vaccines and monoclonal antibody production. The kytero® 10 completes the kytero® series, providing scalable and robust upstream solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry.
