Hologic, Inc announced that Leuven, one of the most prestigious University Hospitals in Belgium, will replace its’ existing liquid based cytology with the ThinPrep® System for use with all their gynaecological and general cytology samples. The ThinPrep System includes the state-of-the-art ThinPrep 5000 slide processor and the ThinPrep Imaging System, the fully integrated, interactive computer system that assists cytotechnologists and pathologists in the primary screening and diagnosis of ThinPrep Pap Test slides. The ThinPrep Imaging System combines revolutionary imaging technology with human interpretive expertise to improve cervical cancer screening efficiency and performance. Leuven is based in the region of Vlaams Brabant in Flanders and was one of the very first laboratories to adopt liquid based cytology in Belgium. After a thorough review the decision was taken to convert to the ThinPrep System. The new agreement is for a period of six years.

Mr Peter Branders, Process Manager Pathology from the University of Leuven, commented: “Automation, standardisation and traceability were the main keywords in our search for a new cytology technique. With Hologic we found a system that fits perfectly to this modern way of processing. A good, reliable technique makes a secure and better diagnosis possible. With the ThinPrep System we are able to process continuously and trace the sample through every step of the process. The positive consequences of this new process flow is a faster and better service to our patients.”
