Biomonitor® Optimises Wastewater Treatment Operations
Nov 28 2011
Early detection of high loads is essential for optimal operation of wastewater treatment plants. High loads increase oxygen demand of biomass (biological oxygen demand, BOD), so treatment plant operators employ aeration to supply the oxygen in demand. The BioMonitor®, manufactured by Lar Process Analysers of Germany, enables plant operators to optimise control of wastewater influent, while letting in even loads of the wastewater and making additional air ventilation unnecessary. Consequently, use of the analysers help reduce energy and other operating costs.
Activated sludge decomposes substances in the sample water within the reactor cascade. By using the reference
cascade, the biological oxygen demand needed for decomposition can be determined within three to four minutes. Detecting even toxic events toward the biomass, the BioMonitor® is also suitable for wastewater treatment plant effluents and within the field of environmental protection, where it also monitors and controls water quality.
