Versatile single-use soil sampler

QED Environmental Systems, Inc has launched the new single-use Combo Core™ soil sampler for field preservation VOC analysis.

The Combo Core™ system is set to replace the popular Terra Core® soil sampling tool, specifically developed for collecting core samples for VOC analysis using field preservation.

Moulded from virgin-grade polypropylene, the Combo Core™ is QED’s first tool to carry the PFAS-free designation, making it ideal for collecting soil core samples for PFAS analysis under EPA Method 537M. It is also suitable for collecting VOCs and SVOCs under EPA Methods 8260 and 8270.

The new sampler retains the durable design and easy-to-use T-shaped handle of the original, while providing additional benefits. In a ground-breaking development, the Combo Core™ soil sampler can collect both 5- and 10-gram samples from a single tool, eliminating the need to carry multiple sampler sizes. Switching between the two sizes is simple: sampling technicians only need to lift and twist the centre plunger.

David Kaminski, Senior Vice President at QED Environmental Systems, stated: "Customer feedback has been crucial in developing our new Combo Core™ tool. We ensured to retain all the benefits that made the Terra Core® system popular while addressing the challenges faced with single-use samplers. The lack of flexibility was a major issue. Now, with the capability to collect 5- and 10-gram samples of VOCs, SVOCs, and PFAS from a single device, technicians can handle any field challenge."

The Combo Core™ soil sampler is designed for quicker and easier sample transfer, with the barrel fitting standard 20ml and 40ml vials to reduce spillage.

To minimise environmental impact, all Combo Core™ systems are manufactured with Bio-Tec EcoPure®, a unique biodegradable additive.

David added: "The Combo Core™ system is like a Swiss army knife for field technicians, eliminating the need to keep multiple sampler sizes on hand. We are excited to bring it to market and look forward to its reception."
