E-Beam tubes ensure safe, residue-free storage

06 Jun, 2025

Azenta Life Sciences has expanded its sterile sample storage solutions with the introduction of Electron-Beam (E-Beam) treated externally threaded tubes. This latest addition provides biorepositories and laboratories with an alternative sterilisation method that ensures sample integrity without the use of chemicals.

The E-Beam process is now available on Azenta’s FluidX tubes in 0.5ml, 0.9ml, 1.0ml, 1.9ml and 7.6ml formats. Offering controlled, uniform surface decontamination, E-Beam irradiation delivers consistent sterility while avoiding chemical residues that could compromise sensitive samples.

With this development, Azenta now offers customers a choice between E-Beam and gamma irradiation. While gamma remains ideal for denser or more complex packaging, E-Beam treated tubes - validated to a Sterility Assurance Level (SAL) of 10⁻³ - offer a clean, efficient solution for standard sample storage needs.

“This product line extension reflects our focus on flexibility and meeting evolving customer requirements,” said Alexis MacLeod, Global Product Manager at Azenta Life Sciences. “By offering both E-Beam and gamma-treated options, we support a broader range of applications without compromising on sterility.”
