Finnish-based high-tech Gasera announced the launch of a portable device for air quality and security measurement based on cantilever-enhanced photoacoustic technology.

GASERA ONE utilises several different infrared light source technologies, such as widely tunable quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), enables countless application areas for reliable ppb-level trace gas monitoring, such as VOCs, inorganics, hydrocarbons, fluorocarbons, anesthetics, and corrosives at very low concentrations.

The main application areas include climate change prevention, border security and occupational safety. It can, for example, simultaneously measure methane, nitrous oxide, and ammonia emissions from animal agriculture, a growing concern in combatting climate change. A vast number of illegal substances related to terrorism or smuggling, including narcotics, explosives, and even human beings, can also be monitored at border crossing points or airport security checkpoints.

“The market potential for a multi-gas analyser like GASERA ONE is enormous thanks to the wide range of possible application areas,” said Gasera’s CEO, Ismo Kauppinen. “Our mission for the future is to miniaturise the technology into a hand-held analyser for personal air quality measurements that anyone can use.”

A significant advantage of the product is the easy to use intuitive interface, which can also be used with a smart device. Its photoacoustic detection scheme, with a high level of stability and re-calibration period ranging from several months up to several years, offers a low total cost of ownership, said the company.
