The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening has invited the submission of papers on AI in drug discovery, autonomous science and connected laboratories
The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) has called for contributions to three special issues across its peer-reviewed journals, SLAS Discovery and SLAS Technology.
SLAS Discovery (impact factor of 3.3) examines novel technologies and approaches to develop and characterise chemical and biological tools to understand and treat human disease. SLAS Technology (impact factor of 3.7) explores technological advances for life sciences experiments and biomedical research and development.
The SLAS Discovery special issue: ‘Real-life case studies in artificial intelligence-driven drug discovery workflows’ will examine practical applications of AI. Guest editors are Dr Raminderpal Singh, of HitchhikersAI, and Dr Srijit Seal, of Uppsala University and Human Chemical Company.
‘Self-driving laboratories: AI-powered experimental discovery and autonomous science’, in SLAS Technology, will explore systems that combine AI, robotics and automated instruments to conduct experiments and use results to inform subsequent decisions. Guest editors are Dr Yao Fehlis, of Kungfu.AI, and Dr Joseph Brown, of the University of Toronto.
The third topic: ‘NexusXp: The connected lab’, will appear in SLAS Technology. Guest editors are Dr Kalpesh Gupta, of Moderna; Dr Mario Richter, of AbbVie; and Mohit Goel also of Moderna.
Researchers and industry specialists have been invited to submit original research, case studies, technical briefs and reviews that demonstrate successful technology integration to address research challenges.
Topics include laboratory automation; clinical laboratories and environments subject to good practice requirements, collectively termed GxP; AI and machine learning; laboratory management and data handling; robotic sample preparation and analysis; Internet of Things applications; and sustainable, energy-efficient automation.
The issue will be complemented by a NexusXp main-stage programme at the SLAS2027 International Conference and Exhibition, in San Diego, USA, from 30 January to 3 February 2027.
Authors should submit connected laboratory manuscripts before 30 November 2026. Submissions will undergo peer review to assess scientific rigour, clarity and suitability for the issue. Article publication fees apply.
Enquiries should be directed to the SLAS publications manager Jenny Cunningham. Full requirements are available on the SLAS calls for papers page.
