Conventional ovens and muffle furnaces remain everyday workhorses in laboratories, supporting applications such as ashing, loss on ignition, residue on ignition and fusion. These traditional techniques can be slow, labour-intensive and heavily reliant on manual handling, while also creating the potential for analyst exposure to unpleasant or hazardous vapours.
Microwave-enhanced furnace technology offers a modern alternative.
