Sample preparation
Nitrogen blowdown concentrators are gaining traction as a practical alternative to rotary evaporators, offering laboratories a faster route to solvent evaporation while reducing bench space requirements. By lowering the partial vapour pressure of the solvent just above the liquid surface, these systems accelerate evaporation efficiently. Using either a heated water bath or dry block heating with programmable temperatures, combined with a controlled nitrogen purge, the systems deliver rapid, reproducible evaporation. For safe operation, evaporated solvent and purge gas can be removed through an integral exhaust system connected to laboratory extraction or used within a fume hood.
Available from Analytix, the Labtech concentrator range includes four systems designed to support solvent evaporation across a variety of workflows, from 6- and 10-sample formats through to high-throughput 96-well plate applications. The mid-range MultiVap 10 offers simultaneous evaporation using 50 ml and 200 ml cups and features automatic liquid end-point detection via infrared sensors, helping to improve consistency and reduce operator intervention. Most models accommodate multiple vial sizes and include a touchscreen interface for straightforward programming, making them well suited to busy analytical and sample preparation laboratories.
