In the past 20 years, lab-on-a-chip and micro total analysis systems have opened the way for miniaturization in analytical science. The aim of this article is to show how separations in capillaries can be readily integrated with other in-capillary processes such as mixing and reaction, laying the foundations for a versatile and widely applicable lab-on-capillary format.
