CLARIOstar Plus: A new generation of microplate readers

The CLARIOstar®Plus, builds upon the CLARIOstar platform which introduced the patented Linear Variable Filter (LVF) MonochromatorTM, a technology widely recognised for providing the flexibility of a conventional monochromator with near filter sensitivity.

New features include Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) and full plate Autofocus

The all new Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) technology offers industry leading dynamic range (> 8 decades) in a single read. EDR with rapid full-plate autofocus ensures the optimum measurement settings are used for every plate. This is especially useful when measuring low and high intensity samples on the same plate or for kinetic assays where the requirement for initial optimisation and the risk of saturation are both eliminated.

Optimised detectors for all read modes

The CLARIOstar Plus is designed with performance in mind providing flexibility, sensitivity, reliability and an intuitive interface to maximise performance in all read modes. Users who require superior performance in far-red fluorescent detection benefit from a red-sensitive PMT, optimised for dyes with emissions up to 900nm and is perfect for cell based assays where the use of red dyes reduces cell and media associated auto-fluorescence.

The use of a dedicated PMT detector for luminescence and AlphaScreen® together with the LVF Monochromator provides the best performance for luminescence spectral scanning or working with multiple lumiphores and for multiplexing AlphaScreen® and AlphaLISA® probes.

Absorbance is measured with an ultra-fast UV/vis spectrometer capable of acquiring complete spectra (220-1000nm) or up to 8 discrete wavelengths in <1 sec/well. Especially useful for nucleic acid or protein determination and for measuring spectral shift assays.

Gas Control at physiological conditions for cell based assays

BMG LABTECH pioneered gas control in microplate readers and the CLARIOstar Plus continues this with independent control of oxygen and carbon dioxide using the Atmospheric Control Unit (ACU). Precise gas control is perfect for performing real-time cell assays at stable CO2 and O2 gas tensions, for the generation of hypoxic conditions or maintaining fastidious microbes. The ACU is fully integrated with the instrument software providing the control and dynamic recording of gas levels. Fixed or ramped gas concentrations can be created to mimic any growth condition and even more complex disease models such as ischaemic reperfusion injury.

Automation and Integration friendly platform

A stacker is available for increased throughput requirements for up to 50 plates. Like all BMG LABTECH readers the CLARIOstar Plus comes with automation accessible plate carriers that are compatible with all leading automation platforms. The reader can also be equipped with two integrated barcode readers, ideal for medium throughput laboratories.
