Laboratory products
Eppendorf has expanded its sustainable consumables portfolio with the launch of Eppendorf Safe-Lock Tubes BioBased – made entirely from renewable, second-generation raw materials. These biobased feedstocks, sourced from recycled food oil wastes and residues, are processed using the mass-balance approach to create certified polypropylene without compromising performance.
Available in 0.5 mL, 1.5 mL, and 2.0 mL sizes, these tubes – widely known as “Eppis®” in laboratories – match the quality and reliability of conventional Eppendorf tubes. They join other BioBased products in the company’s range, including Eppendorf Tubes® BioBased, epT.I.P.S.® BioBased pipette tips, and twin.tec® Trace PCR Plates BioBased.
This development reflects Eppendorf’s commitment to sustainability, focusing not only on innovative product design but also on responsible material sourcing. Following the principles of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’, the aim is to produce high-quality polymer labware with a significantly reduced environmental footprint.
Manufactured at Eppendorf’s consumables facility in Oldenburg, Germany, the tubes are produced under the ISCC PLUS certification system (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) and have earned the My Green Lab® ACT Label for sustainability, highlighting accountability, consistency, and transparency.
